May Minutes 2024

 

Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met May 20, 2024, at 5:00 P.M.  Present were Travis Farley, Pete Pasero, Emily Carroll, Amanda Lessley, Jennifer Hinterscher, Ilene Woods and Director Jacque Holsapple.

President Farley called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the April meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.

The April financial report was reviewed.  Bills were presented.  President Farley made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Woods, motion passed.

Director’s Report

Circulation for April was 2,456.  Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $511.65.  Eight new cards were issued.  The patron door count for the month of April was 1,213.

The library had a display of Fiber Art created by Janine Broscious.  This was displayed for April 29th – May 17th.  On May 7th Janine was on hand to demonstrate how she creates her art and visited with patrons.

The Aspen Discovery service will go live at the end of May.  This will simplify the search for items for patrons.

The summer show for July 9 has been cancelled.  The end of summer pool party is scheduled for the evening of July 12.

Old Business

The library purchased a $226,000 eleven month CD from Peoples State Bank with funds from the Special Reserve Account.

Children from the local schools added the library and museum to their year-end field trips in May.  Approximately 175 children from St. Thomas Kindergarten, first grand and Newton Elementary first grade took part in the tour.

Trustee Lessley made a motion to adopt the 2024-2025 Holiday Schedule, seconded by Trustee Carroll, motion passed.

Trustee Woods made a motion to increase the non-resident fee from $90.00 to $100.00 for the library’s fiscal year beginning July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, seconded by Trustee Lessley, motion passed.  This fee increase is determined by the General Mathematical Formula in JCAR Section 3050.60 Non-Resident Fee Formula.

The Trustees reviewed the Annual Agreement for Share Members for fiscal year 2025 beginning July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025.

Trustee Carroll made a motion to employ one part-time summer employee working up to 30 hours per week, seconded by Trustee Woods, motion passed.

The Trustees reviewed the technology E-rates for funding year 2024.

The library will have Painting with Tia for adults on the July 11th from 5:30-7 p.m.  There is a $30.00 registration fee and the class is limited to 20 people.
