September Minutes 2023

 

Trustees of the Newton Public Library District met September 18, 2023 at 5:00 P.M. Present was Travis Farley, Pete Pasero, Emily Carroll, Amanda Lessley, Jennifer Hinterscher and Director Jacque Holsapple.

President Farley called the meeting to order.

Minutes of the August meeting were reviewed and will stand as presented.

The financial report was reviewed.  Bills were presented.  President Farley made a motion to pay the bills, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion passed.

Director’s Report

Circulation for August was 3,347.  Money collected from fines, faxes, copier, book sales, cards, and miscellaneous was $483.95.  Eleven new cards were issued.  The patron door count for the month of August was 1,511.

Old Business

A variety of quilts and crafts were displayed in the library during the annual Fall Festival.  The event was well attended and had a number of participants.  Quilt and craft show winners were announced. 

The library has subscribed to Mango Languages which is an online self-guided language learning platform and provides a mobile app to learn any number of languages.  This is available all patrons including children who wish to learn a new language.  The library has started advertising this service to the public. 

New Business

Pals Electric provided two quotes to the library to upgrade all lighting in the library to LED lamps.  The first quote was to provide 554 LED lamps which would replace all light bulbs in the library at a price of $10,653.00.  The second quote was to provide 288 LED lamps at a price of $8507.00.  Trustee Lesley made a motion to accept the $8,507.00 bid to upgrade the lighting, seconded by Trustee Pasero, motion passed.

The board reviewed the Public Access to Electronic Information Policy and recommend no changes be made.

The Library is participating in the Fifth Annual Library Crawl.  This event takes place October 1-31.  The Library Crawl encourages patrons to visit other libraries across the state throughout central and southern Illinois.  this event has grown from 28 libraries participating in 2019 to over 158 libraries located all over the State of Illinois.  Passports are located at the library at the main circulation desk and can be stamped at participating libraries.  

Per the Capita Grant Requirement, the board reviewed and discussed Chapter 3, 4, 5, & 6 (Personnel, Access, & Building Infrastructure and Maintenance, Safety).

The final Decennial Meeting Minutes were reviewed. President Farley made a motion to approve the minutes seconded by Trustee Hinterscher, motion passed.

The next meeting is October 16, 2023.
